Outdoor Ice Rinks Open December 17

Weather permitting, skating rinks will open for the season on Saturday, December 17. Rinks with warming houses are available for your enjoyment at six Hopkins park locations. Call the weather hotline at 952-939-8355 for conditions, closings and updates. Information about regular open hours, and extended holiday and winter break hours, is available on the City of Hopkins website.

Alarm Registration and Renewals Due by December 31

Individuals and businesses are required to register their burglar and fire alarm systems. This annual registration allows the police and fire departments to keep more up-to-date records on alarm holders and important keyholder information. The fee is $30 for fire alarm systems and $30 for police alarm systems (panic, burglary, duress, medical, holdup). New to Hopkins? Need to renew your alarm system registration? Fill out the online Alarm User Permit form or call City Hall at 952-548-6300 for a paper copy of the application. Permits are required to be renewed annually before December 31. Homestead Applications Due December 31

Property owners in Hennepin County have until December 31 to complete a homestead application for 2022. Eligible applicants must have moved into their home on or before December 1, 2021. Hennepin County offers an online filing application. All of the details about homestead applications are available on the Hennepin County website.

Happenings at the Hopkins Activity Center

KiddyFest
Bring the kiddos for a morning of fun on Friday, December 16, from 10 a.m. to noon. The Activity Center gym will be full of large motor toys such as blocks, slides, tunnels, a bounce house and more. Kiddywampus will be doing a fun hands-on craft project and healthy snacks for kids will be offered. This is a free community event for youth in kindergarten through 3rd grade and their special adult. No registration is necessary. Adult supervision is required.

Defensive Driving Discount
Refresh your driving skills with Defensive Driving classes for drivers over 55 years of age and get an auto insurance discount as a bonus. Classes are now open through April. See a list of in-person and online classes.

"Noon Year's" Celebration
Senior adults, are invited to attend a special Noon Year’s event on Thursday, December 29, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the Activity Center to celebrate another year around the sun. We will have games, entertainment and appetizers for you to enjoy while you socialize with friends old and new. Register to attend.
