Garlic Mustard Removal Volunteer Event is June 1
Join the City of Hopkins for a volunteer event to remove garlic mustard and learn how to manage it on Saturday, June 1, from 9 a.m. to noon, at select locations in Hopkins. Garlic mustard is an invasive species that outcompetes native plants and takes over forest floors, preventing other plant regeneration. This invasive species has become an increasingly large problem in the Midwest and management is key for the health of our city’s environment. Sign-up to volunteer for the event.
Hopkins Climate Solutions Fund Kick-Off Event is June 3
The City of Hopkins invites you to join us to celebrate year 2 of the Hopkins Climate Solutions Fund with a kick-off party on Monday, June 3, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., at the Hopkins Pavilion. We'll be celebrating projects completed last year and sharing about how you can access funding to complete your own projects. We'll have refreshments, giveaways, a photo booth and more.
Grant and Loan Opportunities Application Opens June 3
Applications for three City funding programs will be accepted June 3-28. The Hopkins Climate Solutions Fund offers incentives for residential and commercial projects to accelerate our transition to cleaner and more efficient energy. Projects awarded in the past have been solar panel installations, electric bike purchases, and weatherization improvements. The Façade Improvement Program is open to commercial property and business owners in Downtown Hopkins, between 7th Avenue and Shady Oak Road and 1st Street N and 1st Street S to apply for funding for façade revitalization projects that strengthen Mainstreet’s vitality. The Hopkins Small Business Loans are one-time forgivable, no-interest loans available to small businesses with brick-and-mortar facilities in the City, funded by the American Rescue Plan Act. The grants may be used for publicly visible physical improvements to the exterior of buildings and improvements to increase ADA accessibility. Learn more about the programs.
Nomination Deadline for Cops N Kids Fishing is June 6
Do you know a Hopkins resident or student between the ages of 8 and 11 who would benefit from police mentorship? The Hopkins Police Department is accepting nominations for Cops N Kids Fishing coming up on Thursday, June 13. All nominations are due by June 6 at 8 a.m. Learn more and submit and online nomination form.
