Halloween in Hopkins is October 26

Break out your costumes a couple days early and head downtown for Halloween in Hopkins on Saturday, October 26, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring trick-or-treating along Mainstreet, a Haunted Jail Tour at the Hopkins Police Department, a pet costume contest, kids games and more. National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is October 26

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is coming up on Saturday, October 26. Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., dispose of unused medications at a drop-off location near you. Find your closest collection site. 


Buckthorn Bust Volunteer Opportunity is November 2

Join the City of Hopkins for a volunteer event to remove buckthorn and learn how to manage it on Saturday, November 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Hiawatha Oaks Preserve. Buckthorn is an invasive shrub that outcompetes native plants and takes over forest floors, preventing other plant regeneration. This invasive species has become an increasingly large problem in the Midwest and management is key for the health of our city’s environment. Learn more about buckthorn and sign-up to volunteer.


Save the Date: Turkey Bingo with the Hopkins Police Department is November 10

The Hopkins Police Department is hosting Turkey Bingo on Sunday, November 10, at 2 p.m., at the Hopkins Activity Center. For $20, play 10 games for the chance to win amazing prices worth over $100 each game. Raffles for gift cards to local businesses will be held between games. Refreshments will be available for purchase. The 18+ event is cash only. All proceeds will go to the department’s Cops N Community programs.


Now Hiring: Administrative Assistants, Accounting Technician/Accounts Payable Technician

The City of Hopkins is seeking two Administrative Assistants for the City Hall Information Desk, supporting the Administration, City Clerk, and Inspection departments. Job duties include collecting, preparing, and reviewing information; processing applications, forms, licenses, permits and other documents; maintaining records and related systems or database; public communications including committee minutes, sharing data on departmental website or bulletins. The positions are full-time with a salary range of $58,136-$70,844.80 annually. Learn more and apply online. 

The City is also seeking an Accounting Technician/Accounts Payable Technician within the Finance Department. Job duties include verifying transactions; processing accounts payable, account receivable transactions and payroll; monitoring expenses and payments;  reconciling accounts; assists in clarifying non-complex discrepancies; preparing, reviewing, and submitting routine statements and reports; maintaining department accounting records and database;  and responding to a variety of inquiries about financial information. The position is full-time with a salary range of $62,275.20-$84,073.60 annually. Learn more and apply online.
